Jackson Herrington makes a mistake on the 21st hole and fails to reach the green with his initial chip shot. Meanwhile, Howell lands on the green and makes a smooth two-putt to take a 6-hole lead. With 15 holes remaining, Howell appears to be the likely winner.

Howel secures the 19th, leading by 5 strokes

Mason Howell locates the fairway and then hits it to within 20 feet, making par—another performance that outshines Herrington’s bogey after he drove into the rough off the tee. He now leads by five, matching the biggest advantage of the match.

Can Herrington make a comeback in the afternoon?

Last year, Noah Kent trailed Josele Ballester by four strokes after the first 18 holes, but he made a remarkable comeback by sinking a chip shot on the 19th hole. He kept battling and advanced to the 36th hole despite being behind, although Ballester managed to hold on.

Herrington must perform better on the first nine holes, which are the more challenging part of the golf course, than he did in the morning. Howell needs to play at even-par, but Herrington has to take advantage of any errors Howell might commit.
