4 Dead, 19 Injured in Chicago Shooting Spree, Authorities Report

At least four individuals have lost their lives, among them a minor, and 19 more were injured in gun incidents throughout Chicago over the weekend, as reported by authorities.

The ages of those affected vary between 5 and 48.

Shootings from Friday

During the first incident over the weekend, a 33-year-old woman was driving just before 7 p.m. in the 1900 block of West 66th Street when she was shot in her right eye.

Law enforcement stated that a person in a black car fired several shots toward the victim before driving away without being identified.

The individual was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center while in critical condition.

Later that night, just after 10 p.m., two men aged 38 were outside on the 300 block of South Maplewood Avenue when a person they didn’t know walked up to them, pulled out a firearm, and shot at them several times.

One of the injured individuals sustained several gunshots to various parts of their body and was transported to Stroger Hospital, where they were declared deceased. The second person was shot in the side and taken to Mt Sinai Hospital, where they were also confirmed dead.

Approximately 15 minutes later, around 10:15 p.m., a 30-year-old individual was driving through the 1700 block of South DuSable Lake Shore Drive when another person, who was in a silver SUV, fired shots at the victim and then left the area. The victim sustained an injury to the knee and was transported to Stroger Hospital in stable condition.

Other shootings between 5 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Monday:

  • At 10:55 PM in the500 North Kedzie Avenue blockPolice arrived at a convenience store after a person was shot and discovered two men who had been injured. A 48-year-old man sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his body and was in stable condition. The second individual, aged 45, was shot in the back and arm and was in critical condition. Both victims were transported to Stroger Hospital. Additional investigation revealed that the victims were shot during a verbal dispute between two unidentified men who then fired at each other.
  • At 11:51 p.m., a 35-year-old man was outside on the 300 block of North Central Avenue when he was shot twice in his arms. The perpetrator ran away from the location on foot. The injured individual was transported to Loyola Hospital and is in stable condition.

Shootings from Saturday

  • At 12:15 a.m., a 25-year-old woman was outside on the 1700 block of North Harding Avenue when she was shot in the shoulder and transported to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.
  • At 1 a.m., in an unspecified place, a 27-year-old man was outside when he heard gunshots and experienced pain. The injured individual drove himself to Stroger Hospital in stable condition. The victim could not offer more details about what occurred.
  • At 2:45 a.m., a 19-year-old man was outside on the 6500 block of North Ashland Avenue when he was shot at by an individual in a white vehicle. The victim was transported to St. Francis Hospital in stable condition.
  • At 5:19 a.m., an altercation occurred on the 2400 block of West Warren Boulevard between the victim, a 42-year-old man positioned near the sidewalk, and another individual. The conflict escalated when the suspect drew a firearm and fired at the victim before escaping in a vehicle heading west on Warren Boulevard. The victim suffered gunshot injuries to the leg and arm and was transported to Stroger Hospital, where he was initially reported to be in stable condition.
  • At 7:13 a.m., police arrived at the 4300 block of West North Avenue and discovered a 37-year-old man who had been shot in the leg. He was transported to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.
  • At 9:12 a.m., police arrived at the 1300 block of South Lawndale Avenue and discovered a 26-year-old man who had been shot in the left leg. The injured individual was transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital in stable condition.
  • At 12:50 p.m., a 30-year-old man was on Indiana Avenue in the 5500 block when he was shot in his right hand by someone unknown. The injured individual was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in stable condition.
  • At 7:54 p.m., in the 6400 block of South King Drive, a 37-year-old man engaged in a dispute with an unidentified individual who drew a firearm and fired at him, striking his left thigh. The injured person was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in stable condition.
  • At 10:59 p.m., a 44-year-old man was on the sidewalk in the 3100 block of West Madison Street when an individual with a handgun approached him and demanded his belongings. There was a short confrontation, during which the firearm discharged, striking the victim in the ankle. The attempted thief ran away from the location. The injured man transported himself to Stroger Hospital and was in stable condition.
  • At 11:16 p.m., a 21-year-old man arrived at Jackson Park Hospital in the 7500 block of South Stoney Island Avenue with several gunshot injuries. The individual stated he was in a park when he heard gunfire and then experienced pain. He did not offer any additional details.

Shootings from Sunday

  • At 12:25 a.m., in the 3000 block of South Hamlin Avenue, a man, whose age was not disclosed, informed police that he was in the alley when he heard gunfire, experienced pain, and discovered he had been shot in the eye. The individuals involved ran away from the location. Emergency responders arrived at the scene to assist the victim and transported him to Mt. Sinai in a critical state.
  • At 1:42 a.m., in the 7600 block of South Ingleside Avenue, a 24-year-old man was inside a Kia car when at least two individuals came out of an unidentified vehicle and approached him. Following a confrontation, the suspects fired shots at the victim. The perpetrators then left in an unspecified direction. The victim sustained injuries to his back and leg and was transported to U of C hospital in stable condition.
  • At 1:46 AM in the3800 West Chicago Avenue blockA 22-year-old man was in a vehicle when he was part of a traffic accident. Another car, which wasn’t involved in the crash, pulled up beside them, and an unidentified shooter got out and started shooting at the victim, hitting him seven times in the chest. The attacker went back to his vehicle and drove away. Emergency responders provided care to the victim and transported him to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.
  • At 2:59 a.m., a 21-year-old man entered the U of C hospital located on South Maryland Avenue, suffering from several gunshot injuries. He was unable to offer additional information about the incident. The individual was reported to be in a critical state.
  • At 1:17 PM in the4400 south greenwood avenueA 5-year-old boy was inside an apartment when he was shot in the head. The victim was rushed to Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition and eventually died. A gun was found at the location.
  • At 4:43 p.m., in the 8800 block of South Dante Avenue, a 17-year-old male was shot once in the head while inside a home. The individual was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center with critical injuries and later died. A firearm was found at the location.

Unless specified otherwise, no arrests were recorded in either instance.
