Comedian Guy Branum Says Passenger Elbowed Him on Delta Flight Over ‘Too Fat’ Comment

Comedian Guy Branumstated that he had injuries following a reported conflict with another passenger on a recent Delta Air Lines flight.

On September 14, the 49-year-old actor posted a video on Instagram where he mentioned being seated in the middle seat when a man sat beside him and expressed dissatisfaction with the limited space. Branum claimed the man then nudged him and stated that he was “too fat” to be on the flight.

I experienced an exhilarating journey on my airplane today,” the actor from “No Strings Attached” started his video, which he titled “Flying While Fat.

“Usually, when I have more money, I fly business class because I’m a large person and I don’t want to be cramped in someone else’s space,” he added. “This time, I got a Comfort Plus ticket.” According to Delta’s website, Comfort+ seats are the same width as regular economy but offer additional legroom.

Branum mentioned that he frequently worries about flying because “people have lost their composure around me before.”

And today, it was a middle seat, which wasn’t ideal,” he said. “A man approached, a white man in his sixties.

First, he lost it over a woman putting something in the overhead bin near his seat,” Branum continued. “Then he sat down next to me and was immediately annoyed with me, asking if I could move over. I told him, ‘No, I can’t.’ Then he just shoved me as hard as he could with his elbow.

In the video, Branum showed a picture of bruises on his side that he claims he received during the event.

“And then I recorded this video…” he said as the clip transitioned to another video showing him sitting on the plane beside the man.

Branum said to the camera, ‘He elbowed me because he thinks I’m too fat to sit next to him,’ and the man responded, ‘Well, who wouldn’t think that?’

“Would you be pleased if I pushed you back with my elbow?” Branum questioned the man.

Well, there’s not much space here for me,” the man said, then added, “I also paid for this seat.

“I covered the cost for this seat too,” Branum mentioned.

Think you’d want to at least share the armrest?” the man inquired, to which Branum replied. “Yes, we’re not sharing the armrest at this moment. Right now, you’re using it because you elbowed me to make space.

I’m not even near the armrest,” the man said as Branum replied, “I’m not on the armrest either.

The two kept arguing as the man seemed to suggest that Branum needed to lose weight. After Branum responded to the man, “You’re not exactly slim yourself,” the man said that he was a member ofWeightWatchers.”

“And that’s how I shed the pounds,” the man said to him.

Branum then questioned the man if he anticipated him to lose weightin the “next twenty minutes or so.”

No, have you ever…” the man said, with Branum interrupting. “Do you think I’ve ever attempted to lose weight, sir?

“I’m not sure,” the man remarked.

“Are you truly convinced that I’m overweight in this country and that I’ve never attempted to shed pounds?” Branum questioned.

“I’m not sure,” the man said again.

“OK,” Branum said. 

The footage switched to Branum speaking directly to the camera, stating that he informed a flight attendant that the man had “touched” him but “I was fine to remain in the seat if needed.”

Branum stated that the man informed the airline employees that he was “too heavy.”

The comedian said multiple Delta staffers came to observe “if I was too fat,” including a senior crew member who informed the man that Branum would not be removed. Eventually, the man changed seats with a woman sitting across from him, and Delta provided her with frequent flyer miles as compensation. Branum mentioned he also asked for miles.

Branum mentioned that the woman who ended up sitting beside him was “very kind.” Nevertheless, he added that “people who are overweight shouldn’t be waiting for a future time when they’ll feel deserving of traveling and living their lives.”

The Emmy Award-winning individual claimed a staff member requested him to remove his video, but he refused. He mentioned that other passengers subsequently supported him, stating the man had been problematic with others during the flight.

He mentioned that the woman who ultimately sat next to him was “very kind,” but also stated that “people who are overweight shouldn’t be waiting for a future time when they’ll feel deserving of traveling and living their lives.”

Fox News Digital has contacted Delta Air Lines for a response.

In an interview with TMZOn Saturday, Branum stated he intends to submit a police report and initiate a civil lawsuit against the individual. “You can’t assault someone simply because you believe they are overweight,” he mentioned to the outlet.

Branum also claimed that the individual was not taken off the flight due to his status as a frequent traveler. He mentioned to TMZ that he has been communicating with Delta officials regarding the matter.

Fox News Digital has also contacted representatives for Branum seeking their input.
