Introducing the James Waxed Snap Jacket
Flint and Tinder has long been known for its high-quality waxed canvas outerwear, with a reputation built over the years as one of the leading brands in this niche. The brand, which is Huckberry’s top in-house label, has produced a variety of jackets that have become staples in the world of menswear. Among these, the Waxed Trucker stands out as a cult favorite, often compared to heritage names like Barbour, Belstaff, and Schott.
A New Addition to the Collection
For Fall 2025, Flint and Tinder has released a new jacket that serves as a spiritual follow-up to the Waxed Trucker. The James Waxed Snap Jacket is designed to fill the same niche as its predecessor, offering a lightweight, thinly lined, all-purpose jacket with ample cargo space and a versatile look. According to a spokesperson, the jacket was internally referred to as “the refined younger brother of our iconic waxed trucker” during development.
This new jacket isn’t meant to replace the Waxed Trucker but rather to complement it, catering to different tastes and reflecting an evolving menswear landscape.
Design and Functionality
After field testing the James for a couple of weeks, it’s clear that Flint and Tinder has created another standout piece. The design draws inspiration from the coach’s jacket, a classic and versatile style. It features a snap front, snap cuffs, an open waist, and a pointed collar. Traditional vented hand pockets are enhanced with a suit-style vented chest pocket, adding both refinement and functionality.
The chest pocket is particularly useful, allowing room for sunglasses or even a whole hand up to the wrist. This makes it ideal for everyday carry (EDC) needs. While the name might evoke James Dean’s iconic red jacket from Rebel Without a Cause, the snap front design is a nod to the coach’s jacket style.
Materials and Craftsmanship
While the Waxed Trucker is made entirely in America using waxed canvas from New Jersey’s Fairfield Textile, the James takes a more international approach. Flint and Tinder sourced the 12-ounce Dry Finish Waxed Canvas from Scotland’s Halley Stevensons, a respected textile mill. This gives the James a sleeker feel than its predecessor.
The jacket is assembled in Indonesia, but this doesn’t compromise quality. During testing, there were no loose stitches, rattling snaps, or fit issues. Every detail seems well thought out.
Versatility and Appeal
After about a dozen wears, the James proves to be just as functional and versatile as the Waxed Trucker. Flint and Tinder clearly used the lessons learned from eight years of producing the cult classic to refine this new design. If you’ve owned a Waxed Trucker for a while, transitioning to the James is seamless, as the fit is nearly identical, and all external pockets are in the same location.
Despite its streamlined appearance, the James offers more cargo space, including a larger external chest pocket and an additional internal pocket, totaling five storage spots. Workwear is making a strong comeback in 2025, and the James fits perfectly into this trend.
Fit and Color Options
If you’ve worn or tried on a Waxed Trucker, you’ll find the fit of the James nearly identical. Some customers have mentioned it feels too loose, but I found it to be pleasantly form-fitting, just like the Waxed Trucker.
The James is available in black, navy blue, and chocolate brown. Given the range of colors offered by the Waxed Trucker, more options are likely to come soon.

Final Thoughts
The James Waxed Snap Jacket is now my go-to, all-purpose jacket. While I shouldn’t prefer it over the incredibly popular Waxed Trucker, I do, and it’s a testament to Flint and Tinder’s ability to innovate while staying true to their roots.

Availability and Price
The Flint and Tinder The James Waxed Snap Jacket is currently available for $198 at Huckberry. It comes in black, navy blue, and chocolate brown, with more color options expected in the future.
