A-Diamond Entertainment’s ‘Man of the House’ Shines at Billie Holiday Theatre

A-Diamond Entertainment Brings “Man of the House” to the Billie Holiday Theatre

A-Diamond Entertainment is excited to announce that its acclaimed production of “Man of the House” will make its way to the legendary Billie Holiday Theatre. This performance, which is set to take place in Bed Stuy, Brooklyn, will feature three shows on October 10th at 7:30 PM and October 11th at 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM.

Written, directed, and produced by award-winning playwright A’ndre Davis, this bold work explores the issue of domestic violence through the eyes of a male abuse victim—a perspective that is often overlooked. The play made its debut at the Luna Stage Theatre in West Orange, NJ, in August 2014, and has since traveled across the Tri-State area and beyond, receiving praise for its fresh storytelling and dynamic performances.

The production features a talented cast including:

  • Monifah, a celebrated R&B artist and actress, in the role of Kesi
  • C. King, known for his work on “Wild ‘N Out,” as Isaac
  • Trinity Whiteside, who has appeared in “Tyler Perry’s Sistas” and “Zatima,” as Walt
  • Cortez Smith, from “The Chi,” as Lawrence

The story follows James, played by A’ndre Davis, as he navigates his relationship and ultimately seeks to reclaim control of his life. The play combines heart, humor, and hard truths, examining the complexities of relationships, the effects of unresolved generational trauma, and the hidden realities of male survivors of domestic violence. It aims to spark conversations and challenge perceptions around gender, power, and abuse.

“Bringing Man of the House to The Billie Holiday Theatre is a full-circle moment for me as both an artist and a storyteller,” says Davis. “The Billie has long been a home for truth-telling and for art that challenges us to see the world differently. With this play, I wanted to shine a light on a side of domestic violence we rarely talk about — the experiences of male survivors — while still giving audiences the heart, humor, and humanity that make stories resonate. Brooklyn is a community that knows resilience, and I can’t think of a more powerful stage to share this journey of breaking cycles, sparking conversation, and, ultimately, finding hope.”
