Bachelor in Paradise romance update: Where couples stand after episode 9

This week on “Bachelor in Paradise,” a relationship expert assessed the couples during an extremely ordinary camping task.

This week on Bachelor in Paradise, the six remaining couples faced a camping-themed challenge, and Kat experienced multiple outbursts regarding insects.

Let’s recap!

Relationship Test No. 1: It’s time for glamping, folks! All the couples need to do is spend (some of) the night under the stars — after setting up their own camp and handling whatever the host throws at them. Jesse Palmerrefers to “a series of annoyances and pitfalls” as they go through it. (Consider: Damp matches, defective air mattresses, empty cans of insect repellent.) In the meantime, relationship therapistDr. Laura Bermanwill be watching the couples from the safety of the control room. Once the test concludes, Dr. Berman will conduct a group session with the couples and then decide on the winner. Similar to last week, the winning couple will receive immunity, and the group will cast their votes to decide which couple is eliminated.

Keith is missing home, but Kathy wants to continue the celebration.

If the edit is correct, these two are the first to pitch their tent. “Fortunately, Goldens — we know how to get the job done.”

A true icon.

On the following day, Dr. Berman commended how effectively Keith and Kathy interacted with one another. However, she pointed out that Keith and Kathy are only friends, “and this is a place to discover love.”

Additionally, Keith is beginning to experience strong feelings of homesickness, and by the time the rose ceremony occurs, he informs others that he is eager to be sent back to America.

Dale remains calm as Kat becomes extremely upset

Kat’s difficult week started even before the Relationship Test. At the upscale beachside dinner event set up for contestants the night prior, Kat was just about to start her meal when she was “swarmed” (as she put it) by flies.

Screaming, squawking, and hitting people in the face with her napkin — Kat, who claims she has a “phobia” of insects, does it all. This, dear readers, is known as foreshadowing. Once she and Dale arrive at the campsite, surrounded by horse droppings, bugs, and everything broken, it wasn’t long before Kat completely lost her composure.

“They’re everywhere,” she cries. “Dale, I can’t handle this!” From Dale’s perspective, he feels “powerless,” but he manages to remain composed instead of telling Kat to be quiet (which is what I was doing from my couch).

Dale’s reply also left Dr. Berman impressed. “You were doing everything you could to assist her,” she says to Dale. However, the doctor wants Dale to understand that he won’t always be able to fix issues in a relationship — meaning he can’t always be “the hero.” In such situations, he needs to resist the temptation to “pull away or become angry.” Because Kat and Dale helped each other get through the nightmare of a bug-filled campsite, Dr. Berman names them the winners of the Relationship Test. Enjoy your bug-free date on the beach, you two!

Jeremy and Bailey are experiencing alignment problems

Camping isn’t Bailey’s favorite activity. “I’m scared of the dark, and I’m scared of bugs, and I’m in the dark with bugs,” she complains. “I don’t go camping; I just go for luxury.” Jeremy, on the other hand, enjoys the outdoors and excitement. “I’ve never set up a tent. I’ve gone camping in a pre-made tent in Peru,” he says. “I’ve also slept on concrete floors in Guatemala. So, this is enjoyable!”

Considering everything, Dr. Berman proposes that Jeremy and Bailey may not be “in sync” as a pair. While they have a spark — they might not share the same goals in life. Jeremy accepts the comment calmly: “That’s not accurate, and I strongly disagree with her!”

Spencer and Jess are under a tight deadline Spencer and Jess have limited time to work with Spencer and Jess are racing against the clock Spencer and Jess are dealing with a time constraint Spencer and Jess are pressed for time Spencer and Jess are in a hurry Spencer and Jess are facing a time limit Spencer and Jess are working under pressure due to time constraints

Ultimately, there’s some conflict! No, the original lovebirds from Paradise didn’t have a major argument during the camping challenge, and Dr. Berman didn’t declare their relationship was over. However, for the first time, Jess and Spencer have a disagreement: their plans for when to have children. Spencer, who is 30, hopes to start a family within the next two years. Jess, who is currently 26, wants to have kids by the time she turns 30. To put it another way, fans of roses, the baby calculations aren’t adding up.

Additionally, Spencer is eager for them to move in together immediately, but Jess isn’t prepared; she has already relocated for a man before, and that guy ended up cheating on her—on two separate occasions! “We don’t need to rush ahead four steps,” she says to Spencer.

Alexe and Andrew finally Speak Out™

The two were able to establish their camp okay, but Andrew nearly lost it while trying to figure out how to open the water jug that came with their supplies. “I’m not going to lie — my patience was tested,” he admits. Alexe, on the other hand, was laughing so hard she thought she was going to wet her pants.

It’s fine to laugh with your partner, says Dr. Berman the following day, but she tells the couple that she “didn’t really sense the chemistry” between them. That’s tough!

After taking some time to process the doctor’s insights, Alexe and Andrew have an honest conversation about their relationship. Both recognize they have “barriers,” but they both desire to overcome their anxieties and acknowledge their genuine feelings for one another. “When I say, ‘I love you,’ I will truly mean it,” Andrew promises. “And I will always keep you safe.” They then share mutual declarations of love and conclude the discussion with a kiss.

To be honest, not much occurred between these two this week. They handled the camping challenge well, and Dr. Berman noted their communication was acceptable — but as she also mentioned, “This is a place to find love.” It’s clear the vote was always going to be between Jonathon and Lea or the other couple who are friends, Kathy and Keith.

And the pair heading back is…

Oh, it was a tight call, rose enthusiasts. Palmer reveals that the vote is deadlocked between Keith and Jonathon, leaving it to Dale — part of the victorious pair — to choose which man will receive the final rose. It turns out Dale is still upset about Jonathon’s flirtation with Kat earlier in the season when he was still searching for a romantic connection, so he sends the king of medium back home.

Relationship Test No. 2: “Strong Views”

During this test, Jesse will pose a series of “highly specific questions” to the couples, such as “Who has the most significant co-dependency problems?” or “Whose trust issues might ultimately harm the relationship?” Each participant will then secretly select who they think provided the best response — by inserting a dagger into a dummy representing that contestant. The couple with the lowest total number of daggers in their dummies will receive immunity. At the same time, two couples will be eliminated following a group vote.

But we’ll need to wait until next Monday to discover which four contestants will be leaving. The episode concludes with Jesse announcing Andrew and Alexe as the “Sharp Opinions” challenge — and we get an epic preview of theBachelor in ParadiseSeason 10 finale next week. (Not the producers reviving the Parliament of Paradise, LOL!)

See you back here on Monday, rose enthusiasts.

The Bachelor in ParadiseThe season 10 finale will be broadcast on Tuesday, September 2nd at 8:00 PM ET/PT via ABC.
