Bristol Welcomes the World Cup: A City in Focus

Every path pointed toward Ashton Gate this weekend as tens of thousands of ticket holders got ready to see two quarter-final matches in the Women’s Rugby World Cup – England making a visit on Sunday.

It could have been a week ago, but individuals residing near Victoria Park in the southern part of the city are unlikely to quickly forget the Krazy Races event.

At Cribbs, the team has been getting ready for the “greatest dog show on earth” as the different sculptures from the Gromit Unleashed 3 trail are now brought together prior to their sale.

A unique reading initiative that engaged thousands of students in South Gloucestershire schools has concluded.

Preparing: England’s women have been working hard during training in Bristol this week as they get set for the Rugby World Cup quarter-final.versus Scotland at Ashton Gate on Sunday.

Out of the ordinary: A large number of individuals assembled at Victoria Park on Sunday to witness the Krazy Races, where numerous striking karts zipped through the trees. The gathering helped raise £20,000 for charities in Bristol.

Paw-some: The Gromit Unleashed 3 statues have been taken off the streets and are now on display at Cribbs Causeway with the name The Greatest Dog Show on Earth, running until September 28. After that, they will be sold at auction to support The Grand Appeal.

Historical: The various teams that participate in the Downs League have returned to competition, continuing the weekly football event that has its origins innearly 120 years.

Rolling with the blows: Bareknuckle fighters Paul Hitz and Dean Patterson were among the participants at BKB 45 held at Planet Ice in Bristol over the weekend.

In good form: Bristol Rovers supporters have appreciated the onset of autumn, with their2-1 victory against Barrow at the Memon Saturday, securing their fourth consecutive league victory.

A lasting message: Five years after it was placed on Jacob’s Wells Road to commemorate World Suicide Prevention Day, the anonymous artist who created the artwork Bear With Me has stated the message conveyed by the sculpturesis just as crucial as before.

Schedule: Over 5,500 kids from schools throughout South Gloucestershire read a remarkable 85,000 books collectively during the 2025 Summer Reading Challenge organized by the local authority.

Ground level: A new piece of art titled Our Common Ground, developed by a group headed by artist Oshii, is nearing completion in the city center, where the fountains were previously located. The artwork is being sponsored by Bristol City Council, the Bristol City Centre Business Improvement District, and is being overseen by the Bristol Legacy Foundation and Upfest.

Keep the dates: The RWA’s Annual Open Exhibition has started, featuring pieces from various artists on display until December 28.

Cup-ready: Individuals have been joining crochet sessions at locations such as St George’s Hall, crafting red roses to demonstrate their backing for England’s rugby team as the women’s competition arrives in the city.
