The Evolution of the Design Landscape
In recent years, the design landscape has undergone significant changes. Claire noted that the industry has become more global, fast-moving, and interconnected. Clients are now more informed and discerning, with greater access to inspiration from around the world. Sustainability and provenance have also taken center stage, as people prioritize quality and longevity over fleeting trends.
Looking ahead, Claire believes that design will continue to evolve in exciting ways. While technology transforms how we work, there is a renewed appreciation for craft and authenticity. The Design Centre plays a crucial role in navigating this changing landscape by providing a platform for the best ideas, products, and conversations.
Emerging Trends and Design Directions
This season, there is a noticeable shift towards rich, cocooning colors such as deep plums, burnished coppers, and earthy neutrals. Unexpected materials like textured finishes and handwoven natural fibers are also gaining popularity. These elements are being layered in bold yet livable ways, creating interiors that feel expressive yet grounded.
Arabella McNie, creative director at the Design Centre, identified six key design directions for the upcoming season:
- Deco Redux: A modern revival of Art Deco style, blending the glamour of the Jazz Age with contemporary sensibilities.
- Shizuka: Emphasizes serenity, stillness, and understated elegance inspired by Japanese philosophy.
- Grounded: Reflects a deep connection to nature, stability, and authenticity through earthy palettes and tactile materials.
- Precious Elements: Incorporates the luminous allure of semi-precious minerals like malachite and amethyst.
- Seventies Revival: Features earthy tones, lush textures, and curved silhouettes reminiscent of the 1970s.
- Summer Palace: Evokes the feeling of a secret garden with ornate details and botanical motifs.
