In 2008 Freeman returned to Broadway after nearly 20 years away from the stage, taking the role of Frank Elgin, a talented yet dispirited actor who has lost the will to perform, in The Country Girl. The following year he reteamed with Eastwood on Invictus, a drama in which he played Nelson Mandela, who sought to unite divided South Africa by supporting the national rugby team’s quest to win the 1995 World Cup. He also played a magician who exposes the tradecraft of his confreres in Now You See Me (2013) and its 2016 sequel. Freeman pursued less-suspenseful fare as well with roles in the sentimental dramas Dolphin Tale (2011) and its sequel, Dolphin Tale 2 (2014), and in The Magic of Belle Isle (2012). A suspect has been arrested and charged with kidnapping in the disappearance of Kada Scott, a Philadelphia woman who remains missing. King was initially arrested and charged last week with kidnapping in Scott’s case.
“The tip was very specific that led us back to this location here,” said First Deputy Commissioner John Stanford, with the Philadelphia Police Department. “We want the people– the person we have in custody and anyone else who may be involved — we want them held accountable to the highest degree of the law for what they have done.” This comes just days after human remains were found behind a vacant school in Philadelphia’s Germantown.
Police searched the grounds multiple times, and even shut down the police academy to have the entire new class of rookie officers comb the area, Stanford said. Kada Scott: Philly DA Krasner details Keon King’s prior kidnapping case
Police are still working to determine how King and Scott knew each other, but they believe the pair came into contact in the days before the disappearance on October 4. Investigators said they were able to obtain surveillance video of the vehicle, leading them to believe that the Hyundai is the car used to move Scott to where her remains were ultimately found near Ada Lewis Middle School. “Ultimately when the complaining witness and eyewitness on that case stepped out of the property later that day is when the kidnapping occurred and he grabbed the victim, put her in the car, drove away and assaulted her,” she said. Prior to her disappearance, Scott had complained that someone had been harassing her through her phone, investigators said.
Cell phone data also allegedly places King at the various locations connected to this case, including where the vehicle was burned as well as when the vehicle was seen near the rec center where the remains were found. The video was recorded earlier this year, about an hour before King allegedly kidnapped a woman, threw her in a car, assaulted her and then let her out of the vehicle. Assistant District Attorney Ashley Toczylowski told NBC10 that King’s 2-year-old child was in the backseat of the car during the incident. Police had previously searched the area of the school and the arboretum in the Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia, but only said they had found some physical evidence without specifying what the evidence was. Police and community members have been searching for Scott since she went missing on the night of Saturday, Oct. 4, 2025.
FBI, Homicide investigators join search
Stanford added that police have been in touch with Scott’s family following the discovery of the remains. More information is expected later Monday regarding bail on the new charges, as well as a preliminary hearing date for King. He is already being held on a $2.5 million bail for the initial charges in Scott’s case.
Deputy Commissioner Frank Vanore said King was previously arrested for kidnapping another female acquaintance earlier this year. As investigators collected leads, their search for Kada brought police to the Awbury Arboberetum in East Germantown on Oct. 10. When Kada did not return home that morning, Kevin Scott said her mother called the senior living facility and got “conflicting reports” about Kada’s whereabouts. Prosecutors believe King allegedly kidnapped a woman in front of her house, putting her in his car and assaulting her before letting her out. However, officials are still searching for Scott, 23, who was last seen on Oct. 5, leaving her job at a nursing home.
