A Journey of Resilience and Hope
Over the past few months, many have noticed a familiar face missing from the CBS4 team. Meteorologist Krista McEnany has been absent, and now she’s sharing her story with the community that has supported her throughout this challenging time.
Krista has always been more than just a meteorologist; she brings warmth and energy to the studio and connects with viewers at home. Her journey took an unexpected turn on April 24, 2025, when she delivered a routine weather forecast on CBS4 This Morning. Just hours later, life changed for her in a dramatic way.
“I have no recollection of the moment it actually happened,” she said. “I woke up in the middle of the night complaining of a headache and started giving a weather forecast and then had a seizure. My husband recognized it was a stroke.”
Her husband acted quickly, calling 911 and getting her to the hospital. Doctors discovered that she had an arteriovenous malformation (AVM), a tangle of blood vessels that disrupted normal blood flow and caused a brain bleed. This condition, which she was born with, led to the seizure and required immediate medical attention.
Medical Challenges and Treatment
Krista underwent surgery to remove the AVM and prevent future complications. She spent nearly a month at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital, most of it in the Neuro ICU. The recovery process was not without its challenges.
“Along the way, there were other complications,” she explained. “I had surgery to open my airway after being intubated multiple times. I had a tracheostomy and needed to have scar tissue removed. It was a tough road, but I’m making progress.”
Despite the difficulties, Krista has been working hard with physical, occupational, and speech therapy. Her determination and the support of her doctors, family, and friends have played a key role in her recovery.
A New Chapter
While her health continues to improve, there’s another exciting development in Krista’s life. She and her husband are expecting their third child, a boy due in late October. This news has brought both joy and concern during her recovery.
“It’s made this whole situation a bit more complicated,” she said. “But the baby is doing well and has been closely monitored. We’re very excited about this new chapter.”
Interestingly, Krista has found that her pregnancy may be helping her recovery. Studies show that higher levels of progesterone can speed up brain healing, and she’s grateful for this unexpected benefit.
Missing the Studio and the Community
Krista misses her job and the people she works with every day. “I miss giving the forecast and hanging out with my amazing coworkers,” she shared. “It’s been a tough time, but I’m hopeful and looking forward to returning soon.”
She also appreciates the messages and well-wishes from viewers across central Indiana. “It means a lot that people notice I’m gone and send kind messages asking when I’ll be back,” she said. “I know they care.”
