Resident Evil Requiem is the name of the upcoming Resident Evil game, scheduled to be released in 2026. The official announcement of the highly anticipated (and widely speculated) Resident Evil 9.occurred during Summer Game Fest 2025, featuring a trailer that presented us with the main character, Grace Ashcroft, after two teasing fake-outs.
Since that time, we have learned more about the game’s direction from the development team. Studio lead Koshi Nakanishi states thatRequiem surpasses Resident Evil 7 and Revelations in quality., two games he also directed, matching it against some of thebest Resident Evil gamesin the history of the franchise. He also mentioned that it will “make fans the happiest,” which honestly isn’t helping to change my strong belief that a certain former rookie cop might be making an appearance. Of course, Capcom claims that Leon Kennedy is “a poor fit for horror” at this point (the guy is just too darn tough, I think), but looking forward to the chilling atmosphere andmonsters that awaits us, I kind of feel like I’ll need a hero to get through thisupcoming horror game.
Featuring the daughter of Resident Evil Outbreak’s main character, Alyssa Ashcroft, Grace, the latest installment in Capcom’s popular series takes place 30 years after the original game’s 1998 setting. Everything suggests it will be one of the most significant releases.new gamesof 2026, and along with theGamescom 2025 scheduleStarting in just a few hours, we can only wish the new Resident Evil game will show up again. However, while we wait to see if there’s more information, continue reading below as we analyze all the details we have so far about Resident Evil Requiem.
Resident Evil Requiem launch date

The debut date for Resident Evil Requiem is scheduled for February 27, 2026.
The announcement was made during the official game unveiling atSummer Game Fest Live 2025, where Capcom finally revealed the beginning of Grace Ashcroft’s story. There’s still no indication of pre-orders, but stay tuned as we continue to uncover more details about this enigmatic new Resident Evil game.
Resident Evil Requiem platforms

As per the official Capcom website, Resident Evil Requiem is set to release onPS5, Xbox Series X, and personal computer platforms in February 2026.
It’s disappointing for those still using an older generation console, but I have to admit – it’s appearing quite impressive in the RE Engine, and that appealing raytracing is expected to make a big difference in a horror series like this.
Resident Evil Requiem trailer
The initial trailer for Resident Evil Requiem unveiled at Summer Game Fest presents Grace Ashcroft, the officially confirmed daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft, the main character from Resident Evil Outbreak File 1 and 2. She is depicted as an FBI agent dealing with a virus spreading across the continent – a scenario sure to excite any Resident Evil fan – as she is compelled to confront her history.
Numerous flashback images unfold as Grace tries to regain her composure, mixed with scenes of a ruined Raccoon City after the events of Resident Evil 2 and 3, until she abruptly realizes she is tied to a gurney, crying out for assistance. Then, a man faces away from Grace, informing her that she is the one he has been searching for – “the special one.” That’s truly unsettling.
The plot remains unclear at best, based on this trailer, but it’s an ideal way to spark our excitement for “a heart-stopping experience that will chill you to your core” according to theofficial website.
Resident Evil Requiem protagonist

As we initially saw in the reveal trailer,The main character in Resident Evil Requiem is Grace Ashcroft.. During the Capcom Spotlight showcase 2025, the team provided us with a bit more information about the type of character she is, from director Koshi Nakanishi.
The main character this time is an intelligence analyst with the FBI, Grace Ashcroft,” Nakanishi states. “She is quiet and prone to fear, which represents a different kind of character for the Resident Evil series. We aimed to create someone who encounters horror from the same viewpoint as the player. She gradually learns to conquer her fears during the story, although she is also an FBI analyst who has been trained with firearms and can remain composed and use logical thinking.
As preparations for Requiem’s official announcement approached, speculation was growing that Leon Kennedy might serve as the main character, and although some still hold this belief,Nakanishi spoke on KennedyBy stating, “We always considered making Leon the main character, but creating a horror game centered around him is challenging,” Nakanishi highlights that Leon isn’t easily frightened, making him unsuitable for this kind of experience. Still,we can’t help but question whether he will still play a role in the story somehow. Only time will reveal.

It seems that Resident Evil Requiem is returning us to the origins of the series: the Raccoon City incident. To be exact, it has now been confirmed that the plot will take place “approximately 30 years following the missile attack on Raccoon City” in the Resident Evil timeline. Grace Ashcroft, the main character, is the daughter (or another relative, presumably) of Alyssa Ashcroft from the Resident Evil Outbreak games for PS2.
It appears that Grace will need to revisit her own troubled history to face inner struggles, particularly connected to her mother’s death at the Wrenwood Hotel eight years ago, although the actual gameplay mechanics remain unclear. We haven’t learned much about the plot so far, except that Grace definitely has a significant amount of emotional baggage to deal with.
Some indications suggest there could be a split timeline in Resident Evil Requiem, considering all the scenes of Raccoon City mixed with indoor settings that certainly don’tlook destroyed, along with numerous voices describing an ongoing disaster. In other words, these discussions resemble what the first survivors of the Raccoon City Disaster might have talked about as they dealt with the unfolding events.
At this early point, that’s all the speculation about RE9 we can rely on. Combined with Capcom’s commitment to technological progress, we’re informed to anticipate “a story featuring deep characters and gameplay that is more engaging than ever before.”
Certain observant fans have been able to detectRequiem mentions in Resident Evil 7 References to Requiem in Resident Evil 7 Mentions of Requiem in Resident Evil 7 Allusions to Requiem in Resident Evil 7 Requiem’s presence in Resident Evil 7 Occurrences of Requiem in Resident Evil 7 Requiem’s appearance in Resident Evil 7 Inclusions of Requiem in Resident Evil 7 Requiem elements in Resident Evil 7 Requiem’s mention in Resident Evil 7, so whatever is coming our way on February 27, RE9 has clearly been planned for a long time now. Resident Evil Requiem gameplay

Resident Evil Requiem’s gameplay appears to combine the best elements from throughout the series. Capcom has confirmed that players will be able to move seamlesslyChange from first person to third person perspectives.as Grace Ashcroft, as seen in our non-interventionist approachResident Evil Requiem preview, following a popularpost-launch RE8 updatethat allowed players to perform similar actions during Ethan’s final journey and that of his daughter, Rose, in the downloadable content.
This was also emphasized during the Capcom Spotlight Showcase 2025, as producer Masato Kumazawa noted, “you can either immerse yourself in the horror with intense, realistic gameplay from a first-person viewpoint, or experience it through an over-the-shoulder camera in a third-person perspective.”
Whether you choose a moreResident Evil 2and 4 vibe or go with the Baker House style of Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil Requiem will still include many classic survival horror elements. I mean chases, for sure, with a twisted humanoid creature that crawls along walls chasing Grace through tight corridors before she manages to escape. It’s nice to see RE9 drawing inspiration from the cat-and-mouse encounters of Mr X, Jack Baker, Lady Dimistrescu, and Nemesis, a move that’s been heavily reworked for RE, getting me excited to be scared all over again.
In a creator’s message videoOn the Resident Evil Requiem website, the development team also mentioned that they were “investigating various systems throughout the development process,” such as testing “ideas like an online Resident Evil or an open-world Resident Evil,” but it wasn’t “what fans were looking for or wanted to play.”that’s why Requiem is staying true to the series’ origins as a single-player offline game.
Another important element of Resident Evil Requiem’s gameplay is the abundance of puzzles, a feature present in all the top Resident Evil titles, which helps to complement combat and storytelling moments. This combination represents the essence of survival horror at its best, and although we haven’t witnessed any RE9-style shooting mechanics at this early stage following the reveal. We’ll update you as Capcom gets closer to its February 27 launch date.
Can you order Resident Evil Requiem in advance?

Sadly, Pre-orders for the latest Resident Evil game are not available at this time.. Since the game was just announced, you should anticipate a long wait before it becomes available.
We’ll remain attentive to any developments. However, at this time, we don’t anticipate any news before the end of 2025 at the earliest. If you’re eager for a new Resident Evil game in the interim, a new version of Resident Evil 2 is set to arrive in arcades and is currently playable in certain areas of the UK. This is Resident Evil 2: Dead Shot, and it appears to be an ideal date night option for fans of zombies.
