Two Killed, 23 Injured in Chicago Shooting Spree, Police Say

At least two individuals lost their lives and 23 more were injured in gun-related incidents throughout Chicago over the weekend, as reported by authorities.

The ages of those affected vary between 6 and 49.

As per the police, the initial shooting was not reported until 1 a.m. on Saturday. A 36-year-old woman was walking in the 10100 section of South Michigan Avenue when she was confronted by an unidentified man, who fired at her as she fled.

The woman sustained a minor injury to her arm and was treated on the spot before being released.

Additionally, at approximately 1 a.m., a 17-year-old male was injured in the arm while walking along the 8700 block of South Escanaba Avenue.

He was also injured by the gunfire and transported to South Shore Hospital in good condition.

A woman in her 20s sustained injuries during a drive-by shooting that occurred approximately 4:30 a.m. in the 7400 block of South State Street.

The police stated that the victim was outside when an unidentified shooter in an unknown car fired upon her.

She sustained an injury to her leg and was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in stable condition.

Shootings from Saturday 

  • At 1:09 p.m., a 40-year-old individual was encountered by an unidentified person on the 2100 block of South Pulaski Road, and sustained gunshot wounds to the leg and groin. The injured party was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital with critical injuries.
  • At 2:15 p.m., a 27-year-old man was located in the alley within the 5900 block of South Carpenter Street when two individuals approached and requested his possessions. Once the victim surrendered his items, one of the thieves produced a firearm and fired a shot at his leg. The injured individual was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in stable condition.
  • At 7:40 p.m., a 26-year-old man was outside on the 6400 block of South Marshfield Avenue when he heard several gunshots and experienced pain. The individual suffered a single gunshot injury to the stomach and was transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital in stable condition. The victim could not offer additional information about what occurred.
  • At 8:40 p.m., a 31-year-old woman was outside on the 800 block of West 27th Street when she was shot by an unknown man driving a dark-colored sedan. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and was transported to Stroger Hospital, where she was declared dead. Additional investigation found that the suspects were trying to steal the victim’s personal items. The deceased was identified as Gabriela Ochoa.
  • At 9:14 p.m., a 49-year-old man was walking outside on the 5300 block of North Sheridan Road when he overheard two men arguing, then heard several gunshots. The individual was struck once in the shoulder and was transported to Illinois Masonic Medical Center in stable condition.
  • At 9:19 p.m., law enforcement arrived at the 8400 block of South Muskegon Avenue after receiving a report of a shooting. They discovered several individuals who had been injured by gunfire. A 23-year-old woman sustained injuries to her abdomen and arm and was transported to the U of C in critical condition. A 38-year-old man was shot in the back and was also taken to the U of C, where he is in serious condition. The third victim, a 23-year-old man, was injured in his hand and is currently in good condition at Trinity Hospital. Initial findings suggest the suspect might have been driving a white SUV.
  • At 9:30 PM in a undisclosed location, a person whose age is unknown was shot once in the torso and transported to a nearby hospital with critical injuries. The injured individual could not share information about what occurred.
  • At 10:26 p.m., a 23-year-old man was walking through an alley on the 8500 block of South Elizabeth Street when an unidentified individual exited a car and started firing shots at him before running away. The victim was struck twice in the back and transported to Christ Hospital in stable condition. The injured person could not offer additional information about the event.
  • At 10:48 p.m., in the 7600 block of South King Drive, a 31-year-old man was walking outside when he heard gunfire and experienced pain. The individual was struck once in the leg and thigh and was transported to U of C in stable condition. The victim could not offer information about the event.
  • At 11:11 p.m. in the 2400 section of West Jackson BoulevardOfficers arrived at the scene after being alerted about a person who had been shot and discovered that several individuals had been injured by gunfire. A 36-year-old man sustained a single gunshot wound to his leg and was in serious condition. A 22-year-old man had a grazing wound on his knee and was in good health. The third victim, a 32-year-old male, received multiple gunshot wounds to his body and was in critical condition. The fourth victim, a 19-year-old man, had a grazing injury to his nose and was in good condition. All the injured individuals were transported to Stroger Hospital for medical care.
  • At 11:17 p.m., a 16-year-old male was walking outside on the 3600 block of West Fifth Avenue when he heard gunshots and experienced pain. The individual was struck once in the chest and was transported to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.

Shootings from Sunday

  • At 5:06 a.m. in the 5800 block of North Mozart StreetA 29-year-old man was in a vehicle when an unidentified gunman on foot approached and fired shots toward him. The victim sustained multiple gunshot injuries and was transported to St. Francis Hospital, where he was declared dead.
  • At 10:30 a.m., in the 2800 block of East 78th Street, a dispute between a 34-year-old man and an unidentified individual escalated into a physical confrontation when the perpetrator pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots toward the victim. The victim was hit and transported to Jackson Park Hospital in stable condition.
  • At 10:30 a.m., a 6-year-old boy was transported to Humboldt Park House Hospital in an unknown state following a gunshot injury to his finger, located on the 1000 block of North Hamlin Avenue. Additional information could not be obtained.
  • At 11:42 a.m., in the 4900 block of West Adams Street, a 28-year-old individual was outside when several unidentified individuals approached him and fired multiple shots at his body. The suspects then left the area. The victim was transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he was later declared deceased.
  • At 11 p.m. in the 7100 block of South Vernon Avenue, a 16-year-old male informed authorities that he was walking when he heard gunshots. The individual stated he ran away from the area and later discovered he had been shot in the right calf. He was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in stable condition.

Early Monday morning shootings

  • At 3:24 a.m., a 28-year-old man was walking along the 6900 block of South Stony Island Avenue when an unidentified shooter approached him on foot and fired shots toward the victim before fleeing the area. The individual sustained several gunshot wounds to the back and was transported to U of C in severe condition.

Unless specified otherwise, no one was arrested in either case.
